La Buca delle Fate

The Buca delle Fate is one of those places you fall in love with at first sight and a paradise for those who love snorkeling.
This splendid corner of paradise is located in the Gulf of Baratti, a fraction of the municipality of Piombino overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Not too far from the Buca delle Fate, there is also the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia, rich in culture and history.
The Buca delle Fate, a splendid bay with incredible colors reachable via a dirt path, owes its particular name to the presence of numerous Etruscan tombs of the sixth century. B.C. commonly known as "holes"; small caverns that the ancients believed to be the refuge of supernatural beings.

The Gulf of Baratti

The Buca delle Fate, as mentioned above, is located in the Gulf of Baratti, between Cecina and Piombino, in what is called the Etruscan Coast.
Here, the Gulf of Baratti appears as a landscape stolen from the sceneries of the tropical atmosphere.
To welcome the visitor, a beautiful crescent-shaped white beach, a turquoise and crystalline sea, all immersed in the typical Tuscan nature.

How to get to the Gulf of Baratti

Reaching the Gulf of Baratti is really simple: it is located 12 km north of Piombino and can be reached via the Strada Provinciale della Principessa.
For those coming from the north, the SS1 Aurelia is the most convenient way, exiting at San Vincenzo and skirting the Rimigliano Coastal Park, along the provincial road of the Princess.
The most complex thing is to find free parking, most of them are paid and if the intention is to stay for several hours, an alternative solution is recommended: to reach the Buca della Fate, just pass the port of Baratti and continue towards Populonia, about 1.5 km from the town, there is a clearing on the left, where you can leave your car.

Directions to follow the path to Buca delle Fate in Baratti

From the free car park, the path leading to Buca delle Fate begins.
Paying attention to the first crossroads that you meet almost immediately, keeping to the right, continue along path no. 301.
The route goes into the Mediterranean scrub of the Populonia promontory, where the ancient Etruscan city of Populonia was born and during the excursion it is possible to admire some underground tombs, today almost completely invaded by debris, belonging to the ancient Etruscan civilization.
At the end of the short journey, which lasted about twenty minutes, you can't help but be enchanted by the spectacle that nature offers.
